This project proposes a new block of social housing on a site overlooking the River Foyle. The buildings rational and repetitive character is redolent of the warehouses and industrial buildings that belong to such quayside contexts.
The project addresses the steep nature of the site sloping down from the road by placing the parking on the roof and providing a vehicular access to the roof directly from the road.
The brick block is sited to allow an historic stone ice–house to be presented back towards the river and the city across a garden–like landscape that offers amenity space for the tenants.
This commission was won through competition in 2014 and was submitted for planning in 2017.
