King’s College London Win

Hall McKnight have emerged as winners of the RIBA design contest for the Quadrangle Building at King’s College Strand Campus in Central London. The £20 million project will regenerate the space at the centre of the campus to provide learning, teaching and social areas. The site is set amongst some of the most significant of London’s Grade 1 listed buildings, including Somerset House.

The winning scheme is inspired by the rich layers of history present on the site, the complexity of the urban situation and the existing physical context; and responds to a brief that successfully articulates the aspirations and views of KCL staff and students.

The project aims to transform the Quadrangle as a new focus for the Strand Campus, without disrupting the special qualities inherent in this most distinctive of London spaces.
